Re: Vehicles at Queen’s Bath, Princeville

Aloha:

Over the years, because of publicity found in the various tourist guidebooks, Queen’s Bath in Princeville has become a popular spot for visitors. This popularity has created a parking problem near the Queen’s Bath trailhead, even though there is a County parking lot there with room for approximately 14 vehicles.

During peak tourist season, the County parking lot fills up, and vehicles end up being parked on the roadway and on private property. At times there have been as many as 40 cars parked in this fashion. This has created a problem for residents living near the Queen’s Bath trailhead.

To help alleviate the problem, the Princeville at Hanalei Community Association [PHCA] has opted to immobilize inappropriately parked vehicles (e.g. vehicles parked on private property or in the roadway) by employing a "car boot". The car boot disallows the vehicle to be driven away. The vehicle operator must call PHCA Patrol to remove the boot. There will be a charge to the vehicle driver to have the car released.

The purpose of this letter is to notify you that PHCA will begin this effort on July 1, 2003. Please alert your guests, customers and/or residents that the car boot will be in employed for inappropriately parked cars beginning on the date above.
